Google paused product-vulnerability submissions to its Open Source Software Vulnerability Reward Program after an influx of reports it characterized as invalid and AI-driven. The change is scoped: the report says it does not suspend supply-chain reports, and some qualifying Google Cloud product reports may still go through the Cloud VRP.
The operational lesson is about signal quality, not simply report volume. A disclosure pipeline needs triage criteria, reproducible evidence, and enough maintainer capacity to distinguish real defects from speculative findings; otherwise automation can increase the cost of finding the issues the program exists to surface.
